That said, album closer “Change”, a quiet piano-led piece which experiments with spoken word is a poignant and welcome diversion which, if Glasvegas had looked to explore it more fully, could have furnished a much stronger and more wide-ranging sophomore effort.. But the quartet have decided that the bombast of their 2009 debut wasn't bombastic enough.. One sees the influence of Flood, who really did a good work, but did not alienate the band so much as he did with Editors.
It is a bit far away from the debut, because it´s on one hand more pop and on the other more indie (!?!).

Someone described as 'dream pop', but I wouldn´t compare it to such The shoegazing kind guitars playing style in the background are more from an often used old style from Scottish folk without any devices, am I wrong? Overall this is a good album, but it is not the thing you expected.. The opening double punch of “Pain, Pain, Never Again” and “The World is Yours” is excellent.. Or something even worse And I also feel reminded to a song called 'Sha La La' by South Of No North - 80s gothic from Greece - in the overall hit 'The World Is Yours'.. What sounded disappointing to me when listening the first time, grows more from every listening.. Well, itd be harsh to say that EUPHORIC /// HEARTBREAK doesnt have its share of strong moments.. The former is a synth soundscape replete with quiet French spoken vocals, while the latter is fast, frantic, and a tunefully melancholic indie standard.. Largely, though, its strong moments are so overproduced that any strengths become diluted and a tad trite.. Glasvegas's second album Euphoric Heartbreak was released on 4 April 2011 reaching No.. Given the length of the album, thats something of a problem Theres nothing too bad here, but EUPHORIC /// HEARTBREAK suffers from Glasvegas choice to recourse to the style that worked on their debut rather than expanding their sound.. Euphoric HeartbreakI guess, this should be a conceptional album that searches for tolerance, a bit in the vein of The Smiths, but not musically.. While “Shine Like Stars”, “Whatever Hurts You Through The Night”, and “Dream Dream Dreaming” offer a slightly different dynamic, playing around with rhythm and tempo particularly, the album falls far too quickly into the predictable and mundane, with half-shouted vocal melodies, omnipresent synth parts, and crashing guitars.. There is also a soccer crowd feeling for all those hymns in the middle, but there is very much sadness in the voice of James Allan, let´s say as if the Rangers go down one division. 518b7cbc7d
